*This is an example of javascript.

You will find that using java has its own eccentricities. Java applets and scripts make your web pages come alive; but applets have to download onto your computer first, then run. This makes your page load very slowly. Some scripts will work with Internet Explorer, some won't. Most of these pages will show you what the scripts do. If you use Internet Explorer for your browser, find out if the script will work. If it doesn't, should you use it on your page, your visitors using Internet Explorer will get error messages.

Here are some sites with applets

Rose's Java Archive I would suggest going to Rose's page first. Her directions for the use of applets are very easy to understand. Even if you don't want to use any of them, go ahead and download one or two just to get in some practice. Believe me, it will come in useful when you get into more complicated applets.

Gamelan Gamelan is extremely large, but they do make it very easy to find things. You'll notice with some, that the "source" is included. In this case the "source" does not mean that you can't make the applets do what you want. "Source" in this case, is what was put into a java "builder" to make the applet.

Web Werks He has all kinds of applets, they've been put in a library and are very easy to find.

Webdeveloper Resources for applets as well as links to different sites about Java.

Here are some sites with JavaScripts

24 Hour JavaScripts

Yes, they do want you to give them an e-mail address and password. It is painless and quick. I think you'll find that they have a higher class of JavaScripts.

Gateway to JavaScripts

Cool Site. Pick one that sounds interesting and click on it. Once there, if you like it, you can "View", "Source" and see how they did it. Copy and paste the code. Easy.

JM Web JavaScripts

At this site, once you've chosen your script, it will take you straight to the code. At the bottom of the pages you can "view" the script in action. In this case just copy and paste the code.

The Programming Center

Learn a little about writting JavaScripts. Easy step by step directions. He takes each section apart and explains what it does.

* If a midi player does not come up but the "Save this file" dialog box does, click "Open this file" and uncheck the box which says "Always ask before opening this type of file". If you don't uncheck the box, everytime you click on a midi file, that same box will come up. It gets old pretty fast. See also Tips and Tricks
